Onward and upward: Work to construct new seating areas in the theater is entering a pivotal stage.
While students were away on Christmas break, workers reached a milestone in the process to transform the auditorium into a state-of-the-art theater.
In January, the team formed the steps of the new seating area. They moved a heavy hose to pour cement across the wood, steel, and foam structure. They applied cement on alternating levels so they had a place to stand while it cured; the other steps were poured a week later.

The new, tiered seating will improve sightlines and provide a more intimate feel during productions and presentations. This new structure is made of steel, wood, foam, and cement to provide safe, sturdy support for the new seating.
Construction of the new seating also required the floor to be raised as high as 18 inches in some areas to allow for a proper slope. This raised area will also provide additional space for presentations and shows.
