Slideshow: Theater Transformation March 8, 2023 Take a look at the work to transform Duchesne’s auditorium into a state-of-the-art theater. Duchesne staff discusses construction plans as they prepare the auditorium for transformation. Every item was inventoried and removed from the backstage area before construction began. Part of the preparation process included carefully removing and storing backstage areas important to students. These steps, signed by past crew and cast members, were disassembled and placed in storage.The historic light globes were carefully removed and stored so they were not damaged during construction.Workers removed the decorative wood that framed the stage as they began the demolition process. Contractors had to dig into the floor to access pipes.Wood benches were removed to make way for new, tiered seating. The renovated shop will be a space for crew and cast to collaborate on set design.Contractors poured the concrete base in alternating steps.Tiered seating will provide audiences with improved sight lines. Workers poured concrete over steel, wood, and foam supports to form the base of the new seating area.Steel framing provides support for the new seating area.
